Student workers recognized, rewarded

April 4, 2008 – 9:30 AM

At the beginning of this year, a notice was sent out from the UGA career Center asking for supervisors to acknowledge their student workers who have worked hard demonstrating support and assistance for their university department. Supervisors sent in written information as to why their student should be nominated for the Student Employee of the Year Award.

We are happy to announce that we have five students who have received this prestigious award. They will be honored at the 2nd annual Student Employee of the Year Recognition Luncheon April 15th at the Georgia Center for Continuing Education. Congratulations!

The Students, Departments and Supervisors are:

Naomi Craver – Russell Library (Craig Breaden)
Nelson Dean – Hargrett Library (Gilbert Head)
Jessica Freeman – Media/Peabody Archives (Leanne Finnigan)
Holly Gunio – Cataloging (Jasmine Rizer)
Davis Siniard – Serials (Kat Hart)

Naomi Craver is finishing up her master’s degree in education, with an emphasis in media librarianship. She got her bachelors (also at UGA) in art history. She is from Jasper, Georgia. Naomi enjoys listening to and playing traditional music, is a veritable reference work on The Simpsons, and is expecting her first child at the end of May.

Nelson Dean is a first year graduate student. He has a BA in History, and is currently working on a MEd in Social Studies Education. His hometown is Marietta, Georgia, and he’s been with the Hargrett Library for 1 1/2 years. His outside interests include film, music, and Medieval European history. In his spare time he teaches music and performing arts to high school students and salsa dances.

Jessica FreemanJessica Freeman, a native Athenian, has two different jobs in the Media Department. She assists patrons with videos on the Media Desk and also catalogs for the Peabody Awards Collection. She has been with the department for over a year now and is in her last semester as a Comparative Literature major. She enjoys reading, traveling, and violin. Jessica has enjoyed her work in the library so much that she has decided to pursue a career in libraries. She will be attending Pratt’s School of Library & Information Science in the fall!

Holly Gunio, from Dacula, Georgia, is majoring in History and Social Science Education. She’s been with the cataloging department for one year. In her spare time she enjoys working with kids, reading history books, playing soccer, and hanging out with friends.

Davis Siniard is in his fifth year of study as an Art/Interior Design major. He hails from Cartersville, Georgia, and has worked for the Serials Department since May of 2005. In his spare time, he has participated in trapeze at Canopy studio and enjoys watching television on DVDs.
